College: Rottman became a starter at Stanford as a freshman outside hitter. His sophomore season was cut short due to COVID but he led the team in kills (3.43 per set). Rottman was named AVCA First Team All-American as a junior as he led the country in kills (472) and set the school record for most kills (34) in a four-set match. In his senior season he was chosen AVCA Second Team All-American.

Personal: Rottman's father, Dave, was a two-time All American at UC-Santa Barbara who played for the U.S. National Team as well as professionally in France. His uncle, Steve, competed at Southern Cal. Both of Rottman's brothers were collegiate athletes, Jack played water polo at Santa Clara and Alex played volleyball at Stanford. One of his father's teammates was John Kosty, the coach at Stanford where Will Rottman was signed to play as an outside hitter. In high school Rottman served as the captain of his volleyball team three times, was a member of VolleyballMag.com's Fab 50 list, and set the school record for career kills.
