As a senior in high school, Pestolesi was chosen the Orange County Player of the Year and CIF Player of the Year. An outside hitter at Long Beach State, his team lost in the semifinals his sophomore season in 2008.
Both his parents were All-American volleyball players at the University of Hawai'i, and his sister, Kari, plays at UC-Irvine. He also has a younger brother, Danny.
